Charles and Ray Eames’ “Dots – Etched” is an extension of the husband and wife team’s collective design process and philosophy. Ranked among the finest American designers of the twentieth century, the Eames are best known for their ground-breaking contributions to architecture, furniture design, manufacturing and the photographic arts. The Dots – Etched set, which consists of an etched roller ball pen and matching etched card case, has been approved and certified by the Eames Office, which is dedicated to communicating, preserving, and extending the work of Charles and Ray Eames.

Biscuit Joints

Using a Biscuit Joiner
One of the strengths of a biscuit joiner is its ease of use. To make a biscuit joint:
- Mark the boards. Place the two boards into position to be joined. Run a pencil mark over the biscuit location. For the strongest joint, make sure the ends of the biscuit won't be close to the edge of the board.
- Adjust the joiner. Adjust the guide fence depth to half the thickness of the wood.
- Line up the joiner. Align the biscuit joiner's cutting guide mark with a pencil mark on a piece of wood.
- Cut the slots. Turn the biscuit joiner on. When it has reached full speed, plunge it into the wood to cut the slot. Repeat for both sides of all joints.
- Test fit the joint. Place a biscuit in one slot and fit the two boards together to make sure the joint is tight.
- Glue the joint. Place glue in each slot to be joined. Insert the biscuit and then join the boards before the biscuit begins to expand. Clamp the boards together and wipe away any excess glue before it has a chance to dry.
