W7, Wednesday , Finally finishi my model making(to be continued)

I dont know why my building looks so different from others, just more bigger than others.

Last night I work over night , and get the laser cutting done.

Back to school to glue them ,but still has some calculation mistakes that effect the model, so I need to sightly change the design which the model can be make .

(Beacuse my building has some hallow parts, so the weight of the material is heavy and some of the "beams" cant hold much)



By 10:pm I almost done my 1:50 model , I think I probably dont have time to finishi the matrix sheet.

W7-Tuesday,get some parts of the building done by laser cuting

Basically I chose 2mm MDF as my material but there are not enough material in that Upper Queen St , workshop, and the school laser cutting machine is out of working.

Now, what I need is the redesing the rest of the building to 3mm thickness MDF.

I am afraid this project I cant finish on time, I am quite behind others.

The difficulty of making a model by laser cutting is about the calculation, and you must clearly know how to order them together.

Because sometimes the material will be cut into similar size so labeling them out is quite important and more easier for the later modeling.

I spent some time on the 3D modeling software, because I never use it before except Secondlive and ArchiCAD.

Just the quick design of the building , some parts of the building haven't got the accurate scales,

I may do another 3D model in accurate scale.

I fond some similarity of my design and Peter Eisenman Architect.


We both use the rectangle shape to develop the facade of the building, Peter Eisenman also used into the interior.

Not the final building design ,but just the idea

The diagram shows how it relates to the adjacent building and some conditions of the site.

 Another site map for the sight line and the relationship between the building and the adjacent environment ,I made another map of that.(Click the picture for clearly image)

I think the site map which I made in the past, shows very clearly about the amenities( residences, hotel, public transport, restaurants).

Because of this project is a 5 stories building, therefore, I feel confuse about how to create lots of "parts" of the building in 2D panel and then glue into 3D model perfectly. Each wall can be fit perfectly. There are lots of things need to be considered, for example the thickness of the material.

I figure out there are only three ways for making laser cutting model :

• All use our brain to calculate everything, draw in AutoCad or Illustrator.
• Do the same scale paper model first and then take them into parts, draw in AutoCad or Illustrator.
• To design the model in 3D software and then draw in AutoCad or Illustrator.

For more accurate I chose the method : 3D model ---> Illustrattor.
